Well, some researchers at The Wharton School had the same question and decided to put GPT-4 to the test against MBA students in a brainstorming showdown.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: generate diverse, innovative ideas for new products targeting college students, under $50.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: the researchers played around with prompts, trying everything from minimal guidance to Chain of Thought (CoT) instructions and even asking GPT-4 to channel its inner Steve Jobs.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁: Without clever prompting, GPT-4's ideas tended to be more of the same flavor. But with some strategic nudging—especially the CoT approach—the AI's idea diversity got impressively close to human levels.
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: AI can be a powerhouse for tactical work, but it still needs that human spark to guide it towards true innovation.
